Robert Plant, vocalist for Led Zeppelin, is born.

1951

The late Phil Lynott of Thin Lizzy is born.

1952

John Hiatt, solo artist, is born.

1965

Stones release the single "Satisfaction" which immediately becomes a world-wide anthem. Keith claims he woke up in the middle of the night in a motel room in Clearwater, Florida with that riff in his head and immediately recorded it to cassette.

1967

The New York Times reports about a new noise reduction system for album and tape recording developed by technicians R. and D.W. Dolby.

1968

The director of the University of Tennessee's audio lab, Dr. David M. Lipscomb, reports a guinea pig subjected over a three month period to 88 hours of rock music recorded at a Knoxville disco at 120 decibels suffered acute damage to the inner ears. The New York Times was told by Steve Paul, owner of the New York disco, The Scene, "Should a major increase in guinea pig attendance occur at the Scene, we'll certainly bear their comfort in mind."

1969

The Beatles, along with John Lennon are in the recording Studio for the last time as they complete work on I Want You (She's So Heavy) for Abbey Road.

1969

Mothers of Invention is disbanded by Frank Zappa, because he is "Tired of playing for people who clap for all the wrong reasons."

1973

The Rolling Stones release "Angie"

1980

John Lennon starts recording his final album, Double Fantasy.

1981

Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band perform a benefit concert for Vietnam veterans at the Los Angeles Sports Arena.

1996

Carlos Santana receives a star on Hollywood's Walk Of Fame.

1999

Blues Traveler bassist Bobby Sheehan is found dead in his New Orleans apartment. He was 31.
