Bart Lorang, the CEO and co-founder of Denver-based software provider company FullContact, thinks it's so important for his employees to take vacation, that he's offering them a $7,500 bonus to do it. There are just three conditions on the offer: employees must completely cut themselves off from email, texting or making phone calls while away; employees aren't allowed to do any work while on their vacation; and employees must actually go away on a trip. Lorang chose the $7,500 amount because he believes it's enough for a family of four to take a trip to Mexico for a week. Lorang told local TV station KDVR he had the idea for the vacation bonus when looking at photos of his trip to Egypt and he was struck by one of himself texting while riding a camel among the pyramids. He said experiences like that made him realize the value of completely disconnecting during a trip, and wants to encourage his employees to do so as well. Lorang also said he hopes the bonus helps recruit top talent, saying he has trouble finding qualified engineers.
