A recent scientific study has found that the best way to get rid of a song that's playing over and over in your head -- what's known as an "earworm" -- is to do a puzzle. Dr. Ira Hyman of Western Washington University explained that the reason it works is that puzzles keep the brain busy, and the brain's more susceptible to continued earworms if it isn't as occupied. Puzzles that focused on five-letter anagrams were particularly effective, and the researchers also recommended reading a good novel. What songs create the worst ear worms? The researchers found in their study that Lady Gaga tunes were the biggest culprit, particularly "Alejandro" and "Bad Romance.
Or you could just sing it over and over till you're sick of hearing yourself sing the song.
